Beginner Ballet for Strength, Flexibility, Posture, & Grace

This class is designed for beginners with no prior ballet experience, introducing the student to the fundamentals of ballet technique. The class will be structured in a traditional format, beginning with barre work, followed by center work, and concluding with a stretching session. The emphasis will be on learning a ballet class structure, achieving correct body alignment, utilizing efficient body mechanics, developing good musicality, and exploring qualities and dynamics to progress toward a comprehensive understanding of ballet technique and expressiveness. Students will be guided to work safely and intelligently in pursuit of their physical potential.

Students are required to bring a yoga mat (for stretching) and ballet shoes. Shoe recommendations are provided in the confirmation email.

Geneviève Du Paul

Genevieve was born in Montréal, Canada and started dancing ballet at 6 years old. She joined the professional dance program at age 9, at l’École Supérieure de Ballet du Québec, one of the most prestigious dance conservatories in Canada. She trained with M. Daniel Seillier, Mme Francoise Vaussenat, former soloist from l’Opéra de Paris, and Alexandra Wells, former dancer at the Boston Ballet and Etoile at the Ballet de Nancy. She performed principal roles in several ballet productions in school. Before she graduated at age 19, she already secured a Corps de Ballet contract with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and danced several seasons with this prestigious company, performing corps de ballet and demi-soloist roles in various ballets, from classical to neo- classical, including ballets from Petipa, St-Leon, Fokine, Balanchine, Tudor, Joss, Forsyth.

After leaving the company, she started teaching ballet in various ballet schools in Montréal, while studying Fine Art and Music at universities. She is now settled in Groton, in the Boston area, where she teaches ballet at Tufts University and in Acton School of Ballet. She is also a private ballet coach and has successfully trained dancers for YAGP and UBC competition.
She is eager to share her love of dance with her Groton community, and she believes that ballet is the perfect exercise to develop balance, strength, flexibility, posture, and grace at any age!
