Starting SoonKids Stitch Lab: Sew Your First Skirt - Age 9+Summer Fun ProgramsThis beginner-friendly sewing workshop teaches kids how to sew a simple, wearable skirt using their own sewing machines. Over two sessions, students will practice basic garment sewing skills such as measuring, pinning, sewing straight seams, creating a waistband, and finishing their project. Along the way, young makers will build confidence using their sewing machines while designing a skirt they can proudly wear. If time allows, students may also sew a small bonus project to practice their new skills. Kids should come already knowing how to use their machine. Students are required to bring materials including a sewing machine. A materials list is provided in the confirmation email. In this two-session workshop, you will learn how to make a simple, custom, gathered skirt using your own sewing machine. We’ll start by measuring, drafting, and cutting a basic skirt pattern, then move on to assembling and sewing the garment step-by-step. You’ll practice essential machine-sewing skills such as accurate cutting, seam construction, waistband techniques, and finishing seams. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a handmade skirt and the knowledge to recreate the pattern again at home. You should come already knowing how to use your sewing machine.
