The Art of Silk Scarf Designs

Join artist Brenda Caldwell to learn the art of silk scarf design, tap into your creative process, and leave with a unique creation. Participants will learn a new way to explore art through hands-on exercises that tap into their own creative process. The result will be a One-of-a-kind masterpiece they have created: painting without using paint or a paintbrush. Hand-painting silk scarves can create beautiful and wearable works of art and make thoughtful gifts for family, friends, and oneself.

The instructor will provide step-by-step instructions for placing drops or blobs of ink on silk and letting them spread into beautiful, organic patterns. Every imaginable color will run, smudge, and bleed onto silk when simple rubbing alcohol is added. Permanent markers are fun to use; the inks are altered by alcohol into stunning patterns and a rainbow of colors.

Silk painting is an ancient art form. The fabric is free-flowing and feels warm to the touch. It gives a unique sparkle to this fascinating fabric. Silk Scarfs were used as a symbol of luxury and prestige in Ancient China - only the Imperial family wore this luxurious, valuable fabric at royal parties.
