Bird Watching: Fall Bird MigrationNature & OutdoorsFall migration is an exciting time for birds. Billions of birds leave their summer breeding sites for their winter homes in search of food. August through October are peak fall migration months, with some starting as early as late June and others in December. Soaring birds that rely on thermals migrate during the day. Long-distance migratory birds migrate at night and get refueled during the day. Scott Wilson, an avid birder and guide, will lead walks to observe these migrating birds as they return to their winter homes. You will learn about birds' calls and habitats and use Merlin and eBird to identify and record your observations. Participants should wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes for the walk. All trails are relatively flat with the exception of the Bates Land. Please bring binoculars. Introduction to BirdingNature & OutdoorsBird watching not only allows us to observe the beauty of our feathered friends but, most of all, makes us fall in love with learning about and getting to know them. In this program, Scott will share recent findings and stories on bird evolution, behavior, identification, and migration patterns. We will learn to use Merlin to identify birds by their sounds and explore local species through eBird. Scott will demonstrate ways to recognize bird calls and improve your listening skills. You will be ready to start birding in the local birding hotspots this season. Please download the eBird and Merlin apps on your phone before the class if you plan to use them. If the weather permits, we can step outside to apply what we learn immediately. This program is suitable for anyone who wants to know more about birding. Coffee and light refreshment will be available for the talk.Prescott CC - 2026 PROGRAM CATALOG
