Introductory Workshop: Core Strength and ConditioningWorkshopsCurious about Core & Strength Conditioning? Come experience this special one-time introductory workshop and see what the class is all about. Whether you’re considering joining in the Fall or continuing through the rest of the Summer Session, this is a great chance to give it a try. We also welcome those who are currently taking or have previously taken the program to join us. This class is for those who want to build strength, especially in their core, glutes, and shoulders. After age 35, we start losing muscle mass which can lead to a host of problems, but the good news is, if you are intentional with your exercise routine, you can build new muscle at any age! In this class, we will use progressive overload (repeating movements with multiple sets) to fatigue our muscles and thus build strength. All exercises are designed to be safe and effective. All abilities are welcome, no previous experience is required. Variations and modifications will always be given to work within your limits while still challenging yourself. Building a strong body helps to prevent injury, lose fat, and create a lifestyle where movement is accessible as we age. **You are required to bring a yoga mat and water.** Here is what they are saying about Emma's Core Strength & Conditioning Class: "Emma is very motivating, always positive!" "Focuses on core, but also works to strengthen the entire body, because it's all connected. I like that the class is designed to become progressively more challenging week by week and, because the majority of the class has been taking the class for several sessions, session by session. Emma always shows modifications for people of all levels. She is a very good teacher." "The exercises (challenging!); the instructor’s enthusiasm & encouragement!" "The class was challenging and fun! I feel stronger since starting. Emma is a wonderful teacher."Prescott CC - 2026 PROGRAM CATALOG -

We also welcome those who are currently taking or have previously taken the program to join us. This course is great for those who are recovering from an injury, or want to focus on injury prevention. We will focus on a combination of mobility, strength, and flexibility in the different joints in our bodies, to create more durability and resilience. This is a slow paced class, and great for those new to yoga, or those who want a gentle yet intentional class. Please bring a yoga mat to class. What participants are saying about yoga with Emma: "Emma is a great yoga instructor. She changes up the class to fit our needs but is always pushing us to be better." "Good structure and knowledgeable instructor." "The level of “effort” was perfect for me at this point in my life. I have not been active and this class, along with some other at home exercises, has helped to ease me towards my goal of becoming more active while also focusing on correct form and deliberate movements that address my body’s needs during the aging process." "Emma is a very intuitive teacher, who always keeps the class upbeat." "The wonderful instructor, Emma! Her gentleness and patience really helped me get back into yoga after many years." "The in person assistance with the postures and exercises. The ability of the instructor to observe the movements and poses and provide hands on correction of the positions as needed. I also appreciated the combination of exercises with use of bolsters as needed for stretching and supporting certain parts of the body. Relaxing into these positions using body weight gently is important."Prescott CC - 2026 PROGRAM CATALOG -

Nordic WalkingExerciseWe will be walking with unique Nordic poles on our beautiful local trails. This creative walking technique originated in Norway and is now very popular across Europe. It boosts your cardio walking, plus the benefit of providing an upper-body resistance-strength workout, now using 85 to 90% of all body muscles you activate. The special poles are adjustable, shorter than ski or trekking poles, and they are secured with tightly attached hand straps that allow you to propel yourself forward. The poles and hand straps are helpful for stability, so anyone can do this! The unique walking technique requires a small learning curve that I will spend the time teaching to everyone. At the beginning of the first class, we will do some basic training. After the first class and we’ll quickly refresh our previous classwork and add some new suggestions for good results! Below are the trails where we will meet for each week. Sep 14: Fitch's Bridge Ice Line Trail - Meet at Fitch’s Bridge Parking lot near Pepperell Rd (Groton, MA) Sep 21: J Harry Rich Oxbow Loop - Meet at off-street parking at the intersection of Nod Rd and Common St. (Groton, MA) Sep 28: Groton Town Forest - Meet at Town Forrest Road Parking (Groton, MA) Oct 5: J Harry Rich Eagle Loop - Meet at off-street parking at the intersection of Nod Rd and Common St. (Groton, MA) Oct 19: Mines Fall Park - Meet at the Mines Fall Park Parking next to Stellos Stadium and David W. Deane Skateboard Par (Nashua, NH) Oct 26: TBD- We will repeat everyone's favorite trail! ** We strongly recommend registering for the first class to acquire the basic training together.** ** CLASS REQUIREMENT: You must purchase a set of Nordic Walking poles. I suggest poles that are adjustable for height as this is key for optimal setup. Some adjust in three parts and I don't recommend them. Just a simple adjustment in the middle is good. I bought mine on Amazon and did NOT spend top dollar on them! The brand I have is FIZAN, but any that you can find that suit your budget is fine. Our first class will require you to have them in hand so we can get adjusted and learn how to use them before a trail trip. Ski or trekking poles do not work for the resistance control that this requires. **All proceeds benefit Prescott Community Center.** Here is what they are saying about Nordic Walking: "I liked the small group and being active outdoors on unfamiliar trails." "The instructor was very helpful and patient in teaching the use of poles. Each walk was different and enjoyable."Prescott CC - 2026 PROGRAM CATALOG -
Oil Painting for All LevelsPaintingIn the classroom, we alternate working from life and from your favorite photographs. We will explore composition, underpainting, perspectives, color mixing, color harmony, and paint application. The instructor will provide a demonstration at the beginning of every class and instruction throughout. This class emphasizes creativity, exploration, and experimentation rather than technique. While composition, color mixing, perspective, and mark-making will all be considered, learning technique is a by-product of the joyful creation of art. All participants will enjoy the freedom of experimenting with mixed media and surfaces and approaching the edge of abstraction in a friendly, supportive environment. This class is for all levels, including beginners. Student is required to bring materials. A list will be sent upon registration. Here is what they are saying about Heather's Oil Painting class:"Heather is an excellent teacher, very positive, informative, and non judgmental. We explored different topics and techniques each week. At the beginning of each session, Heather discussed and demonstrated options to approach the subject. We then created our own work using the still life or images." "Each person developed their own style in their work. We learned from each other. Heather is a great teacher.
